Climb

Not too long ago, Macon’s new rock climbing gym, Macon Rocks, opened up. Within the first week, Trent joined and was going three times weekly. Several times he told me he wanted me to come climb with him. I was hesitant, to say the least. Eventually, he talked me into it and it was far more fun than I anticipated! Did I finish every route I began? No. But did I concur the bouldering? Also no. I knew I wouldn’t impress anyone, but it was really special to learn something that was a hobby of Trent’s.

Rock climbing gave Trent a chance to share a passion with me. Though my performance did not reflect it, he was an excellent teacher. It was also a great exercise in trust. Pulling my body up a wall is not exactly in my comfort zone, but he taught me some techniques that helped me along.

A few weeks later, we were visiting a town in Florida where we both had friends living. Before grabbing dinner to catch up with them, we suggested rock climbing. It was the perfect activity to get to know each others’ friends in a fun, active way.

I don’t exactly plan to incorporate climbing into my weekly routine, but I am grateful I gave it a try! And I certainly will try again on a date night with Trent or even with friends because that was a fun way to break the ice. I know it isn’t for everyone, but you won’t know until you try.
