Bread

We have always seen ourselves as the kind of people who enjoy things like pottery or making nut milk, yet so often we are too busy or too stressed to do any of it in earnest. However, somewhere between the gentle push to work from home and the "shelter in place" orders, we relished our time at home and many revived old talents and learned new skills. These hard times have made knitters, painters, and stress-bakers out of all of us. But it's baking bread, in particular, that surged as a regular household activity. Everyone I know had a sourdough starter! Although many are excited for a return to normalcy, there is much about pandemic life we will miss. Including how we had ample time to make those special homemade goods and treats that brought us so much joy and comfort.
Some of my favorite summer memories from childhood include making delicious sandwiches on fresh bread with my grandmother. If she didn’t make the bread herself, she took great care to find local bakers to make delicious artisan bread for our meals. There is just something special about a sandwich on home-made bread. And bread might just be the most versatile of foods; it goes with every meal and every type of food imaginable!
But let’s be real, beyond enforced confinement, most of us will forsake our sourdough starters (if we haven’t already) and return to the store-bought loaf. For some reason though, I was having a difficult time accepting that digression. I want to return to the hustle and bustle and have home-made bread. Is that too much to ask?
My town has many great artisan shops but a brick and mortar bakery with household bread is not one of them (at least not I’m aware of.) So I was delighted when I was introduced to Bistro 2 Go, Inc to help me continue these enjoyable summer traditions with my family and friends. I discovered Bistro 2 Go on one of my weekly trips to the Mulberry Market, a producer-only farmer's market in Macon held each Wednesday from 3:30pm-6:00pm at Tatnall Square Park. Bistro 2 Go is an artisan food company specializing in a variety of slow fermented breads, pastries, cookies and other delicious treats. Y’all, they got it all.
So when you’re meal planning for your next vacation or getting ready for your next hike or beach getaway, be sure to include a stop at Bistro 2 Go, Inc or your local bakery. Truly, what is more comforting than freshly baked, warm bread? It will be the little slice of home you didn’t know you needed.
