Reading Your Way To The Top

Nothing beats the joy of finishing a good book. The experience, knowledge, and imagination of others allow us to gain wisdom from the comfort of one’s own couch. The message of a good book will linger and find itself illuminating truths in one’s daily life. And with our society’s ever expanding awareness that experiences beyond our own can shape and inform our lives in a way like never before, books have served as the perfect conduit for messages from across the globe.

We know books can be enlightening. Add to that the perspective of peers and the potential insight multiplies. Starting a book club is a wonderful, holistic activity to initiate with friends. The group discussion will force you to reflect on a deeper level and evaluate your understanding. Not only can you level up together, members may potentially choose books you might not have considered reading otherwise or they may have conflicting interpretations to yours. This will stretch you in ways that would not happen on your own.

Though it may be easy to feel limited by your current location and connections, technology can link you to friends in distant places. Earlier this year, three friends and I read a book together and met weekly over Skype for the discussion. It was so nice to know I would see these far away friends on a weekly basis. If you are unsure of who would want to join you, check out your local library. Many libraries host book discussions or can connect you to those that do.

Reading gives us wings to take us to the next level. Reading with friends can help you soar even higher. Not sure which book to begin with? Here is a list of books in my queue that could help you with a jumping off point:
