Good, Clean Fun

Macon’s local bike/pedestrian advocacy organization, Bike Walk Macon, hosts a monthly event called Bike Party. It’s exactly what it sounds like. We blast fun music and take the party to the streets. Each month has a different theme and a unique route. It is so much fun, you almost forget you are exercising!

One of the things I love most about cycling is the opportunity to absorb the town at a slower pace. I see things I never noticed before each time I cycle. One is better able to connect with the community and, during Bike Party, we create our own community as we go.

I highly recommend joining the next Bike Party. If you do not have a bike, rent a Zagster. Bike Party is fun. It is active. It is the side of your town you didn’t know you were missing. Check out your local bike organization to see if there is a bike party near you or start one with your friends.

Also, take note of bigger events, like Open Streets. This is when a town blocks off certain streets to re-imagine a place without cars. The streets fill with activities of all kinds and foster a new kind of community. Macon’s is coming up on October 20th. This is a great chance to get outside and promote moving, cycling, walking, dancing, or other. There are plenty of ways to get involved through participating or volunteering. I promise there is something for you.
